We had a pretty decent turnout in the small coastal town of Clinton, Connecticut with about 50 players and around 20-30 in the audience. Gary Buttery (US Coast Guard Band, ret.) led the ceremonies and did a fabulous job conducting as well as performing some antiphonal solos in a few guest arrangements that were premiered.
I would have had the only helicon, but Art Hovey appeared at the last second with his black stealth helicon. He also performed an impromptu rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" that was very nice. Props to Art.
It was an interesting journey preparing and sight-reading material with this helicon, because it was originally in Eb and was cut to F before I got it; the cut job was a little off and it ended up playing in E. So, I learned E fingerings for this venture. (My strategy: pretend it's an F tuba and that the music is in a half step higher key. It worked!)
Also brought the little guy to his first TubaChristmas. Mom brought him up to stage to play jingle bells on "Jingle Bells," but he just sort of stared at them (ooh, shiny).
