Very sorry to hear this... I had heard recently that he wasn't doing well, but still a shock. He wasn't all that old either.
One of my enduring memories of my young tuba life was sitting outside at the Harbor place amphitheater in Baltimore for TubaChristmas 1996, where Ed played his factory 6/4 Holton CC and a lively Harvey Phillips sang "Santa wants a tuba for Christmas."

I'm not sure if this is behind a password/account firewall...
But after leaving a performance at my high school, he left his tuba in his minivan, in plain sight, and of course it got stolen. And pawned... For $15.
The police recovered it and returned it to Ed... And in gratitude, he went to the precinct and played a few tunes for them.

I knew Ed since he was in High School. He was a fine musician and a great friend of many years. I will miss Ed greatly!

I knew Ed since 1974. He was a fine musician, a good man and a friend. Ed was also a regular guest on a radio show (Face the Music, WBJC) where the panel would listen to a selection without knowing who played it and then talk about what they heard. Ed's comments always showed musicianship.
