Will there be an Elephant Room?

:tuba:
That's the plan. Vendors have been notified. We have responded in the affirmative.

The last time I went was before the pandemic. I am seriously considering going this year. I've already scheduled off of work. I just need to decide if I want to make the drive.

My brother continues to needle me about coming (would like to introduce me to some of his friends - who are mover/shaker types).

I need to tell that very nice polite soldier (running the thing) that I'm not displaying - though he's probably figured that out.

The thing about JP instruments is that - they are now selling as fast as they arrive at the warehouse, so there really aren't any available to convert (via displaying) into "open box" instruments.

I could conceive of coming, bringing mouthpieces, bringing a few tools, bringing no instruments, not displaying, and not staying all day (Fri/Sat.), but that's probably unlikely. I'm just not in the mood for 1800 miles of r/t driving, big-city rigamarole, with the OBVIOUS plus being "seeing cool tuba peeps/friends/acquaintances/forum-ites, etc."

I have some playing to do in Memphis with the SO on the 31st (which does not interfere with Fri/Sat, but - the older I get - the less interested I have become in driving marathons. Yes...I could detour home through Pitts. on the way home and see grandkids, but they were just here, so...

bloke "I bought them a Daisy BB rifle as a collective gift for xmas - yes...really, but - so far - none of them have put their eyes out".

Infant at home/in day care, mom going back to work, me going back to work, it didn't work out this year.

Would've loved to have come and tried out F tubas and eaten at the bowling alley again.

Maybe next year!

Someone should do a composite of the most obnoxious play-testing in the elephant room, and put it on youtube.

...and - for those who are obnoxious via hogging instruments and p̸l̸a̸ spitting in them for 10 - 45 minutes, post fade-out/fade-in/fade-out/fade-ins (etc.) videos of them playing the same horn for way-WAY too long.

Also...If any of you can manage to video someone dropping some store's brand-new merch. on the floor (mouthpieces, instruments, electronics, etc.), that would also be cool to include.

I'm going to miss going this year. I always enjoy it, but My travel money goes to the youtube channel now, and we have some big trips planned for the next 3 years.

I am going to TMEA for a couple of days. I'll start a new thread for that

I didn't see any pre-registration stuff on line.

Guess I'll just show up! :smilie8:

It's on the site, just not super prevalent:

https://www.eventbrite.com/e/2023-tuba- ... 8138654857

You have to register for each day to get a "ticket". Tickets are free, they are likely just managing the crowds.

You'll want to pre-register as it will speed your entry onto the installation. The MPs keep an access roster and I've heard wait times have exceeded 90 minutes during high-traffic times for those not registered. And if the THREATCON goes higher, everyone gets scrutinized to a higher degree. Best to get there as early as possible.

2008 for me... Crazy how quickly it changed from "I go every year" to "I haven't been in 15 years"!

A bit easier when you're closer, eh?

It was easier for me living in KY than it is living in CT.

KY = travel through the middle of nowhere West Virginia, some mountains/winding roads but a generally easy drive, 550 miles, 8 hours
CT = travel through the clusterf@&# that is I-95 and the northeastern megalopolis, 375 miles, 8 hours

Yeah, I95 through CT is the bane of any travel out of New England.

I like the idea of going to this year’s event, but I’ve got a full plate. Hopefully it returns next year and I can plan accordingly. I’ve been on travel for work almost twice a month recently, so this is a bit much to add.
