Just missed a good one today; Tootsie sitting on top of the 184 in its case leaning against the wall. As SOON as I point the camera at her, she takes off, like she thinks it's a squirt gun or something.

Re: This is the tuba(s)-with-cat(s) pics thread.
I'm afraid that I myself may not be able to offer contributions to this thread. One of the two cats hides behind a tuba on the couch sometimes, but neither one of them are really hiding type of cats. Further, they don't touch the tubas, because - when they were kittens - they got the human imitation of the basketball buzzer noise anytime they got close to them.

Re: This is the tuba(s)-with-cat(s) pics thread.
I honestly don't know if I have any pics in this category. (I didn't start the thread to post my own pics - but to look at y'all's.)
...I think of ALL of my lost cats nearly every day...
Maltese (Mrs. bloke's grade school cat)
Blackie (Mrs. bloke's grade school cat)
Puff (long-haired ginger cat - bloke's grade school cat - named for the cat in the 1st grade primer)
Trixie (tuxedo cat - kolij teechin', and for 20 years - SUPER smart/loyal)
Fatso (visited us for a while)
Tigger (ginger cat - 19 years)
Roxanne (amazing calico)
Minnie - ("Mini" because she looked like a mini-Tigger - a kitten of a close friend's cat)
Blot (male black kitten...dumped in our cove)
Mickie (male ginger cat - short-time visitor)
Nikki and Bella (kittens from the same litter - short-hair and long-hair ginger cats)
Bubba and Suzie (abandoned black kittens Mrs. bloke picked up on the highway)
Dusty (huge, amazing silver cat - the only kitten of Suzie's that we ever kept)
=========================
Covid (gorgeous male tabby - 3 years old - SUPER-attached to me/likes Mrs. bloke)
Cuddles (cute female tabby - 3 years old - NOT the same litter NOR from the same area - SUPER-attached to Mrs. bloke/likes me)
Dogs will probably die in the wild.
Cats will probably survive in the wild.
Dogs - by nature - love their masters (ie "pack leaders")
Cats - by nature - "choose the deal/choose to stay" (every day of their lives). Cats' love must be earned, and absolutely can be earned, but must not be betrayed...and that includes mean teasing.
====================================
====================================
====================================
OK...I'm REALLY cheating, but this was just a bit too funny to not post SOMEWHERE...

Re: This is the tuba(s)-with-cat(s) pics thread.
I spent four hours with the 345 in the "woodshed" today, and Samantha happily sat on the bed next to me and listened.
She still lives outdoors during the day, but we have managed to get her to stay in the house every night now for a few months. Sometimes she is even waiting at the door to come inside when we get home from gigs. She comes in during the day for short visits or sits on the porch or out back in the carport a lot more often now, too.
Recently she has been coming in for supper at about 5:00 and will stay inside until about seven or eight the next morning. She is slowly deciding that it is okay in the house with the three other cats.
One of the neighbor's tabbies was dead in the street this morning, so I am really starting to push Sam to stay inside more than she wants, but I still feel compelled to allow her out when she starts going nuts. (She is sitting on the bed next to me as I type this, with no interest in going outside.) We are winning, but it is taking more time than I want; I worry about her now when she goes out and disappears for hours at a time. I did not worry like this about her before, so I guess she has become important to me.
Hmm…
Anyway, Sam has never seen/heard the 345, so she ran like he** when I set it on the bed and set up my practice space. She hid with my wife in the living room, but after about 15 minutes she came back and listened to me play for a long time. (My other cats Ginger and Zoe do this, too. Mary Ann HATES the tuba, though.)
Here is a short photoplay of Sam checking out the 345 for the first time. The Holton's bell is quite spacious. Sam is a big, healthy, 12-pound cat.

This is one of our three cats (when he was just a few months old). This is Curtiss. He is the most curious about my tubas when I'm working on them.
Here he is exploring a bell I was polishing.
Here he is hanging out with a Conn Eb sousaphone.
Curtiss with my Mammoth.

No, I don't.
And, BTW, mine run when I start crowing the oboe reeds in prep for playing, but they have no problem with the tuba, which is quite a bit louder but apparently does not sound like a cat being tortured.

I caught one of our other cats, Hazel, hanging out with a Conn Eb sousaphone I'm borrowing from a friend.
