If there is scale that is cementing a slide down at the bottom end or latent solder acid down there that's doing the same thing, you might need to spray the blaster in from the valve casings and let it run up to the bottom ends of the slide tubes.

When this happens, how do you ultimately clean up the inner slide so it moves freely again? I have some slides when, pushed all the way in, they can lock up pretty tightly.

I think the Kanstul is ready for an acid bath, but just curious about how to stave off the inevitable until I have the Conn back from the valve replating.

Clean off all the oil/grease, soak it in cleaning vinegar for a pretty long time, and consider running over it with over-1000 grit sandpaper with oil on it, and then going over-and-over it with gas-and-a-rag until no more residue.

OR...Take it to a shop where the inside surface of the outside slide tubes can ALSO be cleaned.

I've used PB Blaster and Kroil around the farm. From my experiences with them, Kroil works the best. Been using it for many years.

One of the local mills buys it by the barrel. It's the only lubricant/penetrating fluid that they keep under lock and key!!!

I think people should try different things and figure out what works best with band instruments. The one thing that I would encourage people to not waste their mind purchasing is WD-40. I'm through posting about trying to point out that there's a difference between steel/rust and brass/lime.

After talking to Bloke, just used PB Blaster to free up the tuning slide in the bocal of my C Ophicleide.
