Availability of some models

Post by Mary Ann »

Based on my recent queries to dealers, both here and across the pond, it appears that Miraphone 283s are not currently being produced for some reason. I have no idea why. I haven't heard back yet from my query to Dillon Music, but Baltimore Brass and some place across the pond have both said none are available. Oh well. I suppose I could get some black clothing and a black mask, drive up to Phoenix, do a home invasion, and steal mine back.

I think it's simply because they are a factory that builds things to order. No orders, no building.

And based on the state of the world economy, no retailer wants to have a room full of instruments sitting around that they're not sure that they're going to sell or not. There's some models that they know will sell far quicker than anything else, and that's what goes into the order. For question marks like the 283, I can easily believe that no retailer has ordered them.

Of course, a special order can be made for that, and Miraphone well certainly build whatever you want, given that you pay and wait.

I don't think any manufacturer would do things differently than this

Burglary in Phoenix may still bring consequences. (if caught)

Try finding one in San Francisco, Portland or Seattle.

I'll keep an eye out in DC and Baltimore if you are up for a road trip.

Try to talk the owner of the 283 to sell it to someone in San Francisco for $999, at which point you could go there, steal it, and not be prosecuted.

...Just in case the new owner has other ideas, perhaps you should don a helmet.

MaryAnn,
If a used one will do, have you contacted the recent seller on Facebook?

I wanted a specific tuba from Mirafone. I ordered it through The Horn Guys. It took a minute, but I got exactly what I wanted. Call Steve Ferguson and discuss your needs. If he can, he WILL help you.

I understand you don't want to "get into" E-flat...and (me?) I consider front-action 4-valve compensating (with the pinky doing the compensating work) to be a bit wonky (just personally, and others love it), but someone has one of those Besson 983 things (European seller - facebook) which are widely admired - asking 5K euros..."asking"...

The Star IS an Eb. And I don't do pistons.
Have talked to FB guy.
Horn guys said pay ahead and six months to get it, and I think I do well enough with what I have that I'm not going to put out that amount of money.

Thanks. 10k euros plus shipping that may trash it, is out of my reach. I'd be totally happy with a used one (the one I had before was used, but not abused) and will just wait until "it" shows up. Things do tend to show up for me, if I am patient. Meanwhile I will work quite well with what I've got. Somewhere, sometime, someone will decide they need something other than the NStar they have, and I'll end up with it.
