(These little facebook reels were the first time out with the bloke's-crappy-lathe prototype. The backbore's exit bore isn't quite as large on the production sample, and it's barely longer, overall...It's "OK", but it doesn't burn like the one in the video. It went back today - along with the prototype. I needed it RIGHT BACK - actually - to play the show after this one, so they didn't have the prototype to compare to their copy - which was a bit unfair to them, so now they'll have them side-by-side.)

We're "moving" again.
I heard from the machinist at the company who has shown me where they found profile differences between their scan and direct measurement comparisons (side-by-side: my prototypes vs. their production samples) so (again) we ARE moving forward...

I may have stated this previously, but...

The H-II production sample (of theirs) was "pretty good but different"...and is being fixed.

My shallow thing (which I sorta consider to be more bloke beginner's luck) is borderline magical, and their production sample missed the mark (and is simply not magic), so that's being fixed.

...a decision was made to keep the back-bores' exit bores the SAME on both versions of each model, and (with the larger shank versions) just put a Schilke-esque very fast bevel at the very ends of the larger shank versions.

one of them: a variation on HbII - with (for many) a less restrictive rim profile (no "pointy" inner rim shape) and a little bit less harsh resonance tendency (minor back-bore change)

the other one: quite shallow and quite small throat...a bridge between contrabass trombone mouthpieces and shallow tuba mouthpieces...ideal for cimbasso, 100-year-old 5/8" bore tubas, and (??) consumer's choice...same rim profile

OK...I've got the REPLACEMENT production prototypes...

They're both "on the money" (inside dimensions) and I'm giggling, as they match my crappy-lathe bloke-shop prototypes.

The SMALL shank (which not-so-many of you will be ordering, but still...) EXTERIOR looks to be a few thousandths larger than my prototype, so I'm ONLY going to have them send a 2-inch-long solid (not bored) tapered CHUNK to verify the need-to-be-slightly-corrected small shank dimensions.

I REALLY WOULD recommend - to those of you who own F cimbassos (and most of you likely own the large-bore Jinbao ones, which doesn't make any difference) - considering ordering this shallow-cup mouthpiece (but in STANDARD shank - as that's the Jinbao receiver size). I believe you might (??) enjoy playing those instruments more - with one of these mouthpieces.

At the same time (since - so far - they've not sent me any prototypes with the large "euro" shank) I'm going to ask them to send a similar solid test tapered large/euro shank "chunk".

As of today, their shop is closed for a couple of weeks (annual scheduled vacation), so (once again) a bit of a delay/detour, but WE'RE GETTING THERE !!!

I would post pictures, but the exteriors look the same as the others (other than a bit of i.d. stamping, rather than felt-tip markings).

Monday (26th), I have a few more quintet engagements.

I'm going to test the (successful production prototype) Sellmansberg II with my four-decades-old F instrument in a performance situation.

What I'm experiencing (at home) is a NOT-dull (as my experience has been that so many Helleberg's "dull out" the F tuba resonance) type of resonance, and NO problems with saggy pitch above the staff. again: the "4/4 C/186" type of sound that many Americans and others seem (??) to be looking for in an F tuba,
(as my personal F tuba is rotary, would be classified as "German"-style... though so many of the "not-German-style" ones are made in Germany).

and the introductory bore size (mouthpipe origin) of my personally-owned instrument is only a scant .500" - if not (probably more like) .495".

I'll ask my colleagues to offer their opinions (as I'll probably do some A/B stuff), but - typically - colleagues will say stuff like "well both are good, just in different ways" or "well...Which one do you like, bloke?" (etc...ie. not useful)

I'm personally loving the cimbasso mouthpiece (easy blow and easy high range/facility w/small throat, but just as much sound), and getting a real kick out of (new experience...never occurred to me to try this) playing my F tuba with a mouthpiece as large as a Helleberg II style of mouthpiece (some of those types of musical selections where F tuba is so much better, YET the sound sorta needs to sport more "bass" and a more "foundational" type of resonance).

I submitted all of everyone's orders for production at the machine shop. I asked if early to mid September would be possible, they said that should work out great, and that hopefully offering that date range would result in under-promising and over-delivering, so let's hope that's the case.

I ordered a scant number of extras, but what I would rather have happen is for anyone who sort of meant or hoped to get on this list to add themselves soon enough (very soon), so as I could increase each quantity and still have extras left over.

Very few of the small shank shallow mouthpieces were ordered, and I deem those as probably quite useful for old small shank/small bore/small bell tubas, whereby most mouthpieces' shank sizes are too large and most mouthpieces' cups and throats are also too large. In other words, more than just something for a small shank F cimbasso, but also (as an example) something for a cute little 70 to 90-year-old E-flat tuba that would play really nicely with the right mouthpiece.

Every pre-ordered mouthpiece will include a mouthpiece pouch (coin purse style) and a tuba-slide-tubing-size clip-on pencil holder (as a thank-you for pre-ordering).
