FS/FT: Kalison Daryl Smith 4/4 CC - $5000
Up for sale is my Kalison 4/4 that has served me extremely well throughout high school. This is an AMAZING example of one of these horns. Only reason I'm selling is because I've since moved on to bigger equipment and this horn has since been collecting dust, and I need money for the F tuba I want.
Can possibly trade for a larger rotary F tuba (eg Alex 155, B&S rotor, Meinl 45 series, Rudy Meinl)
$5000. Strongly prefer not to ship, I can drive a reasonable distance to meet. Currently located in the meantime in Waynesville, MO, but I'll be moving back to Miami, FL in August.
If interested, contact me at james.m.knight2165@outlook.com

You might want to check the privacy setting on that folder of pictures...or just upload them (no hassles/no settings) to imgur.com
I have always found tubas - whereby the valveset occurs far down the instrument, such as this model and the Yamaha 103 - to be interesting...
Both of those models play well.

The DS is a great do-all tuba, I almost bought one many years ago.

Update: new pictures, recently serviced by Chris Hite. Valve bumpers replaced, thumb ring resoldered, dents removed, chem cleaned.

Okay, up front I am biased because I own a DS. But, if you get a good one, these horns stack up with anything in that 4/4+ to 5/4 size range. Sound, dark and pretty Alexander/Rudy Meinl-like. Response very good and intonation is great (188/MW Thor-like). At SERTEC 2022 I played a fantastic Gronitz PCK, another (professional member of this board and I were completely enamored with this horn) over all the other horns in the Elephant room. And I had actually received permission from my wife to pull the trigger. BUT, when I got my DS in the same room... I walked out with my DS. I used to own a Wisemann 900 (PT-6P clone) and it was a very nice horn (better than any 6P I had played at that point). But I sold it, to get my DS back. I don't think a lot of people realize how good these horns can be. And I'm pretty sure this is a very good example of the DS horns.

So true. Super underrated tubas. I wonder, if Kalison had used a slightly thicker layer of silver plating, whether these tubas would have had more lasting popularity.cktuba wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 7:35 am Okay, up front I am biased because I own a DS. Yeah, I do wish the silver plating would have been thicker. But, a lot of HB tubas of the same age, are showing plating wear as well. Sometimes, I wish my DS was lacquered. It would be cheaper and quicker to deal with re-laquering.
