Miraphone gig bag for the old 16.5" bell 186

Post by bort2.0 »

How well do the current Miraphone gig bags (the blue ones) fit the older 16.5" Miraphone 186 tubas? That is, surely the current bags are designed for the current 17.5" (or whatever) bell diameter. But how "roomy" are the current bags for the older design horn?

My Alexander is about the same size as the old 186 (41" tall, 16.5" bell diameter). Kind of curious if the Miraphone bags would be a good off-the-shelf option for my tuba.

(And for this post, you can omit any other details or opinions about the bags themselves, the features, quality, etc... I've owned one in the past and know all the pros/cons already.)

Thanks! :tuba:

I used one for the old 186 when I had an Alex. They make a bag that fits the smaller bell 186. I just sold mine because I bought an old RB San Fran bag.
Roger Lewis can tell you which bag works for an old 186...

I got one with my 186 an it seems to fit very well. The horn is a mid 70s - not sure the age of the blue bag - perhaps original?
