Maryland to NYC TubaChristmas Bus

Post by travisd »

For the 50th NYC TubaChristmas this year, we figured there might be enough interested to put a bus trip together to make the trip easier for folks from this area.

Details are up at https://xmas.tubas.net/nycbus

For the tl;dr - this is a day-trip leaving from Westminster MD, stopping in White Marsh, then heading to Rock Center in time for check-in/rehearsal/concert, then returning late the same day.

$100 with horn, $75 without. (Trying to balance out filling seats with available cargo capacity).

DM or email me for more info! (travisd at tubas dot net)

Jeeze, you move away from Baltimore to the mid-west and suddenly don't like people?

OK, that's pretty typical - carry on.

I used to think NYC was a place I had no interest in, but I've been 3 times since 2021, and now I love it. Wouldn't want to live there, but there is so much to do, it's a fun place

It's nothing like the media make it out to be.

A bus is a great idea. I really enjoy day trips to the city. I can hop on a train here in New London and be there in about 2 hours without worrying about traffic or parking. Have been eight or nine times, mostly sticking to Manhattan, and never had a problem.

I am planning on going to the 50th TC. I'd like to get a small baritone that will fit in a backpack and make a day of it, hopefully with a buddy. Ain't no way I am lugging a tuba around NYC.

I lived in NYC for about 8 years between Baltimore and Minnesota. I did the Rockefeller TC a couple of times, and it's kinda neat the first time... but not something I wanted to do every year.

I lived there for 8 years. First year is all for adjustment of how to live (hauling groceries home, living in <400 sq ft, access to any and everything you could ever want, etc). Tourist seasons (summer and Christmas) are chaotic, but once you get away from all that (or, if it's September or January), it's a wonderful place.

The last Tubachristmas that I went to there was cold, rainy, and every middle and high school kid from the tri-state area. Even if the weather had been fine, it wasn't a good time. Also remember that you'll be standing on ice, and your feet will be very cold.

I loved living there. Also glad we moved, because I can't imagine being there with kids. Seems like a great place to live in retirement, if you can afford it.

Additional Stop added at the Delaware House rest area, near Newark, DE, for folks out in that neck of the woods.
