Beautiful engraving. It's a shame these tubas have the most unworkable intonation of any tuba I have ever played.

Yeah, my first horn when coming back to playing was a Buescher Eb I picked up from eBay about 25 years ago. It had been recommended by a past TN board member who said he had worked on it, but in the condition it reached me, the intonation was really not usable. A local guy said, "Are you sure this isn't a D tuba?" which gives you an idea of how off the thing was. Maybe the BBb horns are better, but the Eb horns not so much.

Maybe that hole in the leadpipe helps the intonation?

I thought at the time it was due to changes in mouthpiece sizes. I tried it with some smaller mouthpieces with no significant improvement. Oh well, I’ll try Eb again sometime, but likely not a Buescher.

Looks like there is a twist in the lead pipe that can't help either.

I have the bigger version of the one posted that's been sitting in a spare room for years now. 18.8"ish bell, 1923. Should probably Craigslist it or post it here, but it has better intonation than the horn it was sold with: a Conn Giant Eb  :eyes:
