This is a Boosey & Hawkes compensating Eb tuba in bright silver from the 1950s. Cosmetically, it is in good shape, with about 90% of the silver remaining. Takes a small British shank mouthpiece. Bottom bow ball and strap rings are still intact.
The valves have a bit of wear, but despite the looks, all slides still have pop. The second valve has been replaced from a donor and was lapped in before I acquired it.
Punchy sound, very direct, nice low range, great intonation besides 8th partial and above. This is a typical example of this model, with a somewhat saggy high range. I like to use 9th partial fingerings for the 8th partial if sustaining.
Comes with a nice Soundline bag and a small shank Besson 17 mouthpiece. Asking $1,500. Located in southeastern CT and would prefer not to ship, but can meet you in New England or the NYC Metro Area. PM or email beanhillbrass at gmail.

That looks fun.
I have a bag just like that, except that it's missing the Soundline brand. It's quite good.

And I had that bag before you. I really liked it!
Cool tuba! And that mouthpiece is something you don't see every day!

Right! I liked it so much I kept it when I sold the tuba it went with. Now it fits the Symphonie nicely.
8th partial is 3 octaves above the fundamental, right?

I may be in the minority, but for the old E-flat Bessons/B&Hs, I prefer the ball. On the B-flats, I can do without -- they are tall enough!Dents Be Gone! wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 4:48 am Looks really nice! Also nice that it’s still “intact.”
