People are crazy and have been posting these, used, with dents and dings and such, for $7,000 to $8,000.

Glad to see Dillon offering a very reasonable price for a demo model.

Does that mean I can put an enormous plastic rim on my Conn sousaphone to deaden the after-ring (which is not confined to high notes)?

I have a practically perfect B&S Symphonie because its previous owner successfully replaced it with a recent Chinese tuba, so there must be some great ones.

I have five Chinese horns, and I'd probably sell all five in a package deal for close to that!

Some people will trade a wonderful rotary instrument for anything that has pistons, and some people will exchange an amazing F tuba for just about any one with which they can play C below the staff with loose lips...

... and I really don't think it has anything to do with Chinese, unless Chinese has something to do with someone's budget - in addition to the things listed above. Regarding the brand that's in the topic: it seems to me that - with Buffet now selling to everyone at it's former wholesale prices - that this Chinese brand's prices and Buffets prices are sort of slamming into each other from opposite directions. I have no idea whether or not that's sustainable...?? I don't understand nor know anything about how people think and their motivations for what they do. I have learned in my decades that people are very prone to following fashion. I'm not implying anything about the products, but just making observations.

Ok, I give up, what is "a plastic ring under the bell" and why is it such a problem to install one? Side question: can't you just put gorilla tape on it, appearance notwithstanding?

Take a piece of clear tubing, fish tank pump tubing being a popular choice in the past, set up an exacto knife in a vise with just enough blade showing to cut through one side, pull it across the blade lengthwise, cut it to encircle the bell, then melt the ends together.

Well I do that anyway because some places you have to set the bell on cement. They would charge a whole lot less than just put the silly thing on?
