Both the 191 and 289 have an 18.5"/470mm bell. I seem to recall someone, somewhere, sometime, saying the 191 (and 1291 by extension) was a compact, large 4/4 or small 5/4 (4.5/4? 9/8?) and the 289 was a true 5/4, making it similar in size/girth to the 496 Hagen (450mm/17.7" bell).
A comparison pic between Miraphone models would be easier if the company listed the heights of the tuba models they make. I'm not savvy enough to know how to scale two images properly.
This is one of a small handful of Miraphone models I'm curious about trying. Too bad about that bell in the OP...
Ventura CL: Miraphone 289?
Re: Ventura CL: Miraphone 289?
I am in the process of getting this horn to fix it up. I'm going to see how good the bell will fix up and then might put a new one on depending on cost. But, I am in a position that I can take pictures of it next to a Miraphone 186, Miraphone 191, and a 496 Hagen, and will do so and post either here or on another part of the forum.

That bell is nothing to get all "bent out of shape" over. ( ' see what I did, there?) Are you coming up here BEFORE or AFTER that thing arrives at your home? I'll fix it for you while you wait, if you have it by then.
I also don't see any reason to take the bell off the instrument to repair it. I'll fix more stuff - like that ugly ass bottom bow dent(s) - if you want, and whatever else... It's just money.

@Pakins51
I know it has only been a few months and the repair may take awhile longer to complete, but if the Miraphone 289 is finished, when you have free time can you post the pictures of the Miraphone (186, 191, 289 and 496 Hagen) models?
It would probably be better in its own post, in my opinion.

Sorry! I forgot to update this thread about it, but the seller must've decided they didn't want to go through the hassle of shipping it, because the day they were supposed to get a shipping estimate for me they stopped responding. So I am assuming they found someone local who ended up buying it. I guess I could post photos of the other three BBb horns next to each other.

My apologies. I should've asked earlier but I would certainly love to see the horns next to each other!Pakins51 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 7:16 am Sorry!
