I somehow missed this review and came across it this afternoon! The tuba sounds terrific and your playing of it was tremendous. Please keep posting this sort of thing. For the amateur players such as myself, it is great motivation to keep honing our skills. Thank you.

Anyone know if these have vented valves?

I asked Eastman about this and they said their rotors have a ‘slot’ or something built in that works like a vent.
Not sure I understand what happens - if the casing isn’t vented, where/how is the change in pressure being dissipated?
Anyone have real world experience with the 825 series and know whether the valves seem vented in use - ‘pops’ after a pull etc?

Question for anyone who owns one of these...
How have the rotary valves held up over time? I'm legitimately curious. Someday I might become a "collector" and I absolutely LOVE horns of this design.

Had mine since January 2024. All good. Love it. I pull no slides and I’ve always been a slide puller before this horn. 3 for 1+2 on a few notes. 235 for low b and e.97% of water comes out the main slide water key. Total happy. I don’t own a c anymore.

They are not vented. But it doesn’t much matter since I don’t pull slides anymore.

And that is the future of tuba design -- no need for weird cross fingerings or slide pulling. Design catching up with need.

I watch my cohort in brass band, who is a FINE player and can rattle the chandeliers in the pedal octave with the best of them, on his Yam 822 (BBb part.) He pulls slides all over the place, and in the upper half of the staff has to use fingerings based on the flat 7th of the harmonic series to be in tune (Bb fingerings on a CC tuba, yikes.) For some odd reason he is saving up for an Eastman 832. Duh.

My homemade Holton 19" bell tuba (x 32" tall)...B-flat with 5th valve...

I push in the #1 slide for second-space C (ok...and neighboring B-natural). Otherwise, it sits out about an inch (per bloke-design).

...Homemade tubas are supposed to be the quirky ones, yes?
