Cimbasso in F - with Vienna Fingerings - super rare

Post by Kontrabasstuba »

Hello everyone,

Here's something rare from the collection: a Cimbasso in F, but with Viennese fingering, manufactured by A. Dost in Munich.
Bore size is 15.4 mm.
The valve lengths are as follows:

Left Hand:
1. Whole tone
2. Half tone
3. One and a half tones

Right Hand:
4. One and a half tones
5. Long half tone
6. Fourth

A somewhat unusual fingering, but it plays well, and the tuning is relatively good too.

Frankly, I think that configuration makes perfect sense on a Cimbasso. Looks easier to hold and balance it that way.
