Re: reynolds tuba mouthpiece
- I believe King top caps will work. If you have genuine/vintage Reynolds buttons, the clearance between their skirts and the outer wall of the donut felt's moat (with King top caps) will be close, but - with straight pistons stems - shouldn't scrape.
- Bach/Olds top caps should screw on, but you would need and extra 1/8" or so of felt underneath the finger buttons.

Re: reynolds tuba mouthpiece
An ordinary Reynolds?
Or a Dr. Young Reynolds?
Feel i had one at some point...
I can't seem to shake the notion they were similar to Olds?
But it has been a while since i sifted through mouthpieces...

Re: reynolds tuba mouthpiece
My King 1241 has Reynolds top caps for whatever reason. Plus, instead of fixing the first valve stem to be straighter, the center hole was enlarged (probably drilled out) instead. The other top caps were not drilled out though, only the first valve was. The tuba had those caps before I bought the tuba. I've seen what both caps look like since my high school, at the time, had both a recording bell-front King 1241 and a 3-valve Reynolds Contempora recording Bell-front tuba too. The Reynolds was quite a stuffy tuba though, despite it being slightly larger than the King with the same or very close bore size...

Re: reynolds tuba mouthpiece found!
Yes, I love it when a plan comes together. THANKS TO TONY!
I have a Reynolds BBb recording bass restoration that should be complete in a month or so. It takes a little time - because I always insist on repairs with original parts. It doesn't cost much more; it just takes some searching and time. Thanks to this forum, things can be found! Not that the Reynolds tuba is some kind of treasured Stradivarius, but it is a cool old silver tuba with that crazy 1st valve tuning mechanism still intact. I think it will be nice for rags. I have a buddy who is the 3 year champion of the Old Time Piano contest up in north Mississippi. I'll be excited to have a decent BBb (not a sousaphone) for our rag project. Pianist> Bob vanDeusen https://youtu.be/cCba-gjrDDM Gonna be some fun playing!
At my delicate age, some would think, "Just make it playable." and enjoy it. I just can't quit thinking how much the next owner might enjoy having a well-cared-for instrument repaired with authentic parts. I know I am always excited to find old stuff that is complete. Could be a vintage tool or some weird, unique antique I take liking to. I am presently restoring an original black beauty snare drum. Just the matching rim clips are around $75 each. Insane... I will probably leave that to the new buyer.
Anyway, thanks to all the folks and tuba repairmen here that help us find the odd parts that most people can't even identify in a "line up".
Very blessed and grateful!
