Euphonium for college

Post by Luke Zellar »

Hey guys! I am in the market for a good used euphonium that I can take into college for my studies in musical performance on the euphonium. I have been looking at Besson/boosey and hawkes since they have some good priced second hand euphoniums but I am open to other offers. All offers help because I usually learn something from each interaction. My budget is around 1500. I am looking to get this horn as a starter then go and buy one when I am actually graduated and have professional gigs. Thank you all for your consideration and offers before hand!

Vintage Besson/B&H (which raised eyebrows in the late 1950's through the early 1970's - when played by high-profile DC service band soloists) are beloved by their owners and collectors, yet a whole bunch of things made since require less effort (in several aspects of playing) and the pistons/casings on quite a few of those vintage instruments are becoming fairly worn.

Even though I'm a mere euphonium doubler, I have my own opinions re: the various currently-made European (out of your budget) and Chinese-made (some: out of your budget, unless excellent-condition/used) ones, but I'm going to defer to those with much more cred.
