Any thoughts on what I should offer for this old horn

I saw it tucked away behind a pile of other stuff in a sort of an "mid-century" store (furniture, lamps, some guitars & amps, records, etc.).

The guy handed it to me and I played it a bit (the valves moved but were very "slow", definitely would need a thorough going thru. Repairs on the solders, one mismatched valve key top, you can see the general condition.

He said I was the first person he had in there that could actually play it (I'm a tuba guy but I at least could make noises through it that kinda-sorta sounded like notes).

I'm thinking about shooting the guy an offer but I don't know where to start. Conversely, if this is a horn you have been looking for, let me know and I'll tell you how to contact the store.

I'd just like to see it out from behind the pile of stuff and back in the hands of somebody who will toot on it every now and then.

Just as a comparison -- a friend of mine bought a really ok condition (shiny, good valves, one dent) yamaha 201 that I play regularly, and he got it for $50 at a thrift store. I've seen equivalent ones online for no less than $745, and they might not even be equivalent. So I wouldn't start at $100, because you never know if they might take a LOT less than that.

Eb tuba to my eyes.

you might have a fun little horn for things like parades or strolling gigs or TubaXmas.

The key point - can you use it. For many modern tuba performance situations, a 3 valve Eb tuba is a joke. For a few, perhaps it's just the thing. A little Eb tuba like this significantly helped restore my interest in playing tuba when it was on the skids a couple decades ago, but I eventually gave it away. If it's something you can use, one way or the other, a year from now you probably won't be able to remember whether you paid $50 for it or $150.

Just for comparison. I paid 95 for the little eb I have. There is a thread here about it. The valves on it are excellent. I thought it was a fair price. Now that I have it in working order, it's a blast to play. So far, I have done all the work myself. It was a self learning project and has been wonderful.

Before I left the states to move to Vietnam in 2006, I bought something like this, a 1923 Cerveny E-flat tuba (with a Carl Fischer overbrand) on eBay from a woman in Brooklyn, New York, for $275, including shipping. The airline didn't mind that I used the carton that was used to send the bass to me (it was sent by regular parcel post) to take onto the plane (it fit under my seat). I also took a big C tuba with me but it went with my hold baggage and I didn't see it for a few months.
