SOLD B&S BBb Tuba for sale model 103 Symphonie

Post by TheBerlinerTuba »

I'm putting my B&S Symphonie BBb Model 103 up for sale.

It was a special order from B&S in 1978 by the Dresdner Semperoper.
Upgrades from standard include a 5th valve and 18mm to 20mm conical valve block.
It also sports a one piece bell with kranz and the 5th valve is tuned to a whole tone.
The tuba is completely original and still sports most of its factory lacquer.
The valves have top compression and the linkages are silent.

It plays great with a bigger sound than its 4/4 size and is far more in tune than almost any other BBb I've owned.
The price is 4,000€. Shipping is possible on request.
Tuba is located in Berlin Germany.

The F Symphonie I bought from Germany a few months ago is really excellent, so I'm tempted to try this, even though I shouldn't.

Just out of curiosity, how conical is the valve block?

Mine is nearly 42".

It needs the XXL Protec.

I have a gig bag available for this if anyone ends up buying it stateside and needs it. I think it should fit (tall top-loading Tuxedo/Humes & Berg).

Bump for Jake!

I want it... I want it... But I don't need it...

When you say one piece bell, do you mean one continuous seam from ferrule to rim? Or does it have a gusset like an old Alexander?

I'm any case...

Bell diameter for the normal 103 (and most stencils of this model like the F. Schmidt 2103 I own) is 17.7"/450mm with no kranz. 105-106cm/41.3-41.7" is the number I've seen quoted for the height of these; they're a bit taller than a 186 but in the same size class. The 3103 has extra pancake to the bell (18.9"/480mm).

It JUST fits in the second largest (after Kaiser sized) Gard bag.

Thank you Blake, that's great to know!

Kevbach33:
The bell seam runs completely through the bell and doesn't have a gusset. The end diameter is 42cm but the throat is fatter than standard or the later 3103 series.

Regarding bag size, the Miraphone "medium to large BBb and CC" bag should also fit, except maybe those with bell larger than 450mm (?).

This particular 103 turns out to be really nice. Just as Jake promised: "plays fantastic."
