Why the X on my new Laskey 30H (EU)?
My new Laskey 30H (EU) is marked with an X. Does anybody know why?

Re: Why the X on my new Laskey 30H (EU)?
Edit!!
I stand corrected on the meaning of the "X" on the new Laskey mouthpieces. It only means that those were specifically marked for display at a trade show or conference. It doesn't mean anything about the quality control or lack thereof. Laskey only releases A-stock items and anything that doesn't meet their specifications is either fixed or recycled. Thanks to Joel for the correct information.

The X marks the spot where the hidden treasure is buried.

It's a crossover mouthpiece (like a crossover Ethernet cable, nerds) - it inverts the phase of the vibrations coming out of the horn, so you don't cancel out out-of-phase sounds coming from other players.

Your tuba's receiver probably has a support brace. The mouthpiece should be inserted so the X is opposite the support brace - usually, pointing up.

This is like a multiple choice test, with “A”- Buddy Rogers, “B”- Three Valves, “C”- travisd, and “D”- donn. Hint: the answer is not “all of the above”.
I pick “A”.
I pick “A”.

Underneath that thin reflective camouflage lies hidden $4 worth of solid brass !Three Valves wrote: ↑Mon Jan 09, 2023 5:28 pm The X marks the spot where the hidden treasure is buried.
Re: Why the X on my new Laskey 30H (EU)?
It's merely a demo mouthpiece. Nothing different about it. (I asked the Laskey rep what the "X" meant.) Last summer I was lucky enough to be "lent" several tryout kits to try a plethora of mouthpieces. Every one of them had that "X" on them. After deciding on which model I liked, I was given the option of either ordering a brand new one or buying the demo. I bought the demo so I could have it immediately..... no waiting.
