WTB: 45° Angle Sousaphone Bit
Hello everyone,
In playing my helicon that I built, I've noticed I have to tilt my head down to reach the mouthpiece, no matter what configuration I try with the bits. I'm using just the bits I've got around, which is one Reynolds and one Conn bit. The Reynolds is a 45° angle, but the Conn is much shallower. I figure if I had another 45° bit it would help me get it closer to my mouth and at a more comfortable angle.
I'm not looking to spend a ton of money on new bits like you can find on eBay. I'm hoping someone has something rolling around in their spare parts drawer that they would be willing to part with.
Thanks!

Thanks! Now that I see the chart, my Reynolds bit isn't quite a 45° angle, but still not as shallow as the Conn bits.iiipopes wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 12:53 pm Try the chart post #2 in this thread:

I think I have one that you can have for the cost of postage plus a pittance for my gas, but I was just looking in that parts drawer and I noticed that a mouse had recently given birth there, so let me ignore that completely for a couple days and come back to it.

I believe my exact words were "Oh man, Mama Mouse!" Three or four tiny pink mice and three or four adolescents were in there along with Mama Mouse. So, I am gonna leave them be for a little while. They had made a nice little nest out of a silver polishing cloth.Tubajug wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 8:46 amarpthark wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 1:49 pm I think I have one that you can have for the cost of postage plus a pittance for my gas, but I was just looking in that parts drawer and I noticed that a mouse had recently given birth there, so let me ignore that completely for a couple days and come back to it.

I should probably be more adamant about mouse-proofing my workshop (ca. 1880s barn/shed). Although, if they get inside the house and the cats find them, it's every mouse for him/herself.

Re: WTB: 45° Angle Sousaphone Bit
Yeah, we live in an older house (ca. 1900) and used to have issues with mice every year. Now that we have cats, we haven't seen any! Other than the two that the cats have gotten...

Re: WTB: 45° Angle Sousaphone Bit
It has been a while since i read that book.
Just as long as rhyme and reason are safe...
(and o' course i'm pretty sure everyone knew what ya meant. On the other hand i think i am always on the look out for odd angled bits, so i'd grab a 45 degree bit without thinking.)

Pretty much guaranteed if you are playing sousaphone outdoors in the winter.
Jordan, I will brave the mouse drawer soon. Probably not tonight, but soon.

Okay, the mice have moved out.
What size did you need, @Tubajug ?
This one features a male end with an OD of 15mm/.059". Seems a bit big. I'm thinking it might be Holton.

I have a couple of Yamaha bits like this if you want them. Just pay postage. They’re probably 30 years old now.
