WTB: Alexander tuba mouthpiece

Post by bort2.0 »

Anyone have an Alexander tuba mouthpiece they'd like to sell?

I just picked one up from eBay, but I think it's either for an F tuba or something else... I know the Alex mouthpieces are a bit smaller(?) than modern things, but this one does seem too big for trombone and too small for tuba.

So anyway... Anyone have an Alexander tuba mouthpiece to sell?

Thanks! :tuba:

Alex mouthpieces are VERY shallow and have a flat cup. At least the ones I have seen are. They are great paperweights. :tuba:

Same with the one I bought. It's just a really small diameter. I forget exactly, but around 31 mm inner diameter...

Shallow cups? Would that help some of the intonation quirks that various Alex owners talk about?

I was (admittedly) trolling, to discover whether you were actually attempting to locate something good, or just something that is.

I played an Alex once with an Alex mouthpiece. The mouthpiece I remember had the enormous "A" shank. Very wide, very shallow, huge throat, and it seemed to help the "intonationally challenged" Alex CC I was playing it on a little easier in that department.

We should all, though, keep our eyes open looking for one for you, Brett...

...Which shank size...??

Thanks Joe. Actually, the last one I bought was from eBay, and a friend on the board here notified me about it. Much appreciated, and still neat to have.

Shank size... whatever. If I like how it works, I'll send it out to be fixed to fit my (standard) receiver properly

Just might. I have a couple notes on my 186 that require adult fingerings with my regular mouthpiece. When I use a shallower one, or the C4 that would have come with the horn, those notes are fingered normally. My old Alex, a BBb, really has no major pitch issues.
