On behalf of the Westerly (Rhode Island) Town Band, I am helping to find a home for these two sousaphones that are owned by the band. They have been unused probably since the 1980s or so and have been sitting in storage, but the valves/slides all seem to work pretty well and the horns themselves are in decent shape.
First is a silver Buescher BBb dating to around 1924. Pretty large horn, seems similar in size to a Conn 20K. Missing a valve button and has a busted brace. Valve plating is in good shape, lots of bumps and bruises on the body of the horn. Has original neck, no bits (not sure it needs 'em). I am thinking $1,500 OBO for this one.
Next is a satin silver Besson "Stratford" BBb dating to around probably the 1960s, rather skinny and fairly light. Valve plating is close to 100%. Has original neck but a couple aftermarket bits (looks like a King and a Conn stuck in there). Minimal dents in the body, but a couple in the bell. I am thinking $1,200 OBO for this one.
These horns are located at the Armory in Westerly, RI and are currently pickup only, but a member of band staff may be able to drive to meet you in the New England region. Please send me an email at beanhillbrass at gmail if you are interested. Thanks!
