Sold: Bloke-restored 1929 Holton euphonium

Post by jtm »

For sale is the really lovey 1929 Holton euphonium that bloke restored and chronicled in this topic.

It's still excellent, but I haven't played it outside the house in the three years I've had it, and I'm not a collector, so it's time for someone else to get a turn. When he restored it, Joe was also able to raise the pitch to standard, with some pictures of the clever cuts in this thread. It's really nicely done.

Sold. It was near Austin, TX, when this listing was new.

The case is really interesting, and I had some delusions of fixing it up, but didn't get to it. Whoever buys it can at least cherish the little Holton badge on the case.

That's a large bore version of that model, and the bore size is as large as the classic Besson euphoniums of the 20th century.

Maybe I set the price too low.... I'll try not to make that mistake if I sell the 188.

That thing sat in that falling apart case for quite a few years out at this new place where I've been for 18 years now. One day when I was trying to put things in better places so I could walk through the room it was in a little bit more easily, I picked it up and blew on it once again. I finally realized that the main problem with its playing was that it was just too long, so I decided to address that problem, clean it up and sell it to someone who would like to own it. I didn't even realize until that day that it featured a large bore.
