This was me, junior year, posing at “parade rest” somewhere on the high school grounds. Probably just outside the band room. This was the fall of ‘73, and we had just ditched the crappy, abused, held together with duct tape Sousaphones. The band parents replaced them with four brand spanking new Meinl-Weston model 10 “convertible” models. Note the beret; the rest of the band wore tall furry shakos, but those interfered with the bells of the Sousaphones. Even after we ditched the Sousaphones, we kept up the tradition of berets for the tuba players, kind of like an elite squad. We sure thought we were bad-ass!
