Hello!
FS: Silver Eastman Eb
4/4 size
.689" bore
17" silver, upright bell
4 front-action pistons
Silver finish
Deluxe case w/wheels
Comes with Hard case and mute
Asking: $4,000
Goes for $8,240 new.
This is a fantastic example of the Eastman 4 valve front action compensating Eb tuba!
It is silver and in nearly mint condition. I keep my tubas very clean.
I had the third valve slide cut so it now plays VERY in tune. Normal tuba tendencies.
I am selling because I just can't get comfy on Eb. I played F tubas for 30 years. Thought I would give Eb a go when I moved to Columbus OH since the brass band scene here is good. I just can't get my fingers to feel at home. If this tuba were in F you would have to pry it out of my cold dead hands! It has a FAT low register and an easy upper register. The valves are vented and the slur is easy and even.
extra info.
When I bought this tuba, I was able to play it side by side with a Besson 983 for 3 days. Both myself and the owner of the besson played duets for quite a few hours, trading tubas and there really was no discernible difference. This horn plays GREAT, but I need an f tuba.
PM me fore larger pics
Thank you for your time

Re: Eastman Eb - Besson Copy FS
Nice tuba, but I don't think this is necessarily a Besson copy other than having front-action compensating pistons. The slide layout and valve angle are entirely different. The bugle does look like it has a similar taper.
I feel your pain on Eb. I have found the front action compensating Eb tubas to make particularly no sense to my fingers, having cut my teeth on various noncompensating front action CCs and Fs . I've been able to negotiate a better "mental switch" by playing on 3+1 Eb instruments simply due to the fact that no other tubas I own have that layout.
Good luck with your sale.

Re: Eastman Eb - Besson Copy FS: $4,500 OBO
You’re not wrong in that the valve angle is different, the slides however wrap similarly. But yes, not exactly the same… I will tell you that when I bought it, I was able to play it side by side with a Besson 983 for 3 days. Both myself and the owner of the besson played duets for quite a few hours, trading tubas and there really was no discernible difference. This horn plays GREAT, but I need an f tuba.

Re: Eastman Eb - Besson Copy(almost) FS: $4,500 OBO
I don't need this tuba at all, and I'm not interested in learning yet another fingering system, because I've got several tubas and almost none of them have the same fingering system. (I just don't want to get into that "pinky anchoring" compensating system.)
I would like to say that I finally played one of these instruments (which was after cleaning out lime for its owner, so everything would work nicely again). I don't know about back to back to the Besson version (because I've never had both models in the same room at the same time) but I thought the Eastman one that I played was pretty nice.
