The guy in the picture (author?) is holding a Yamaha 411 sousa, which is 28 pounds. Maybe 40+ pounds in the case, but not by itself. I took a few sousa weights and recorded/posted them on the old site :coffee:

40-60 pounds? Well, maybe it just feels that heavy!

Just this past week I was switching tubas during quartet and one of the euphs commented that he didn't see how I managed that since they weigh 40 pounds. Rather than let him go on thinking I am Superwoman I enlightened him.

If somebody in a marching band is always making the wrong turns and the wrong moves - as well as playing badly, perhaps someone could sneak by and slip two milk jugs of water in their sousaphone while they aren't looking. That would make it too heavy to march with as well as block off the second branch, so they couldn't make any ugly sounds.
