Is there such a thing as a bell-front F? Or a bell-front Eb for that matter? Seems there are occasions when those would be perfect.

Pretty sure there are bell front ebs. Also eb sousaphones?

And i wouldn't actually plead guilty to laziness, as it would involve doing something. More of a no contest situation.

I have a friend with a bell-front Miraphone 4-valve rotary E-flat (detachable recording version of the funky old 183). I'm sure he would sell it.
It doesn't impress me any more than does a 183.

Oh I don't want to buy one -- was just curious as usual. And I find a 183 totally playable, or at least mine is.

I did a not-amazing-looking (ie. econo) job of lengthening the 4th circuit on my buddy's Miraphone E-flat recording bass, but (I'm pretty sure) the 4th circuit on that thing is still a bit short.

Speaking of Lazy…

We saw “One hand clapping” with Sir Paul yesterday.

There was a scene in the studio in which a mini-orchestra was assembled for an arrangement.

The tuba player, playing nothing, was reading a newspaper.

The trombone player, playing little, was fooling with his glasses and making faces.

Meanwhile, the strings where furiously chopping away.

Here is my 1950's M-83 bell front Eb. viewtopic.php?p=56151#p56151
I've used her with our Dixieland band and for Offertory solos in church. People tell me she has "class"!
