repair "sprints"

Post by bloke »

Someone is driving 1100 miles with two sets of 6/4 bows, two 6/4 bells, (and a big saxophone), isn't arriving until the middle of this afternoon, and I must have them all straightened out by tomorrow afternoon (me: out-of-town freeway philharmonic, this weekend...this one: over in Mississippi).

(They were delayed in their departure - due to minor surgery, and - further time squeeze - they need to be back where they came from in time for a Monday gig.)

Don't straighten out the sax, it'll be too long to fit in their car.

I'm just now getting over upper respiratory cooties from my last freeway philharmonic escapade in another town, and I am feeling just a little bit better just in time for this epic hustle. Mrs bloke always ends up getting everything that I get and she's not quite as far along with her recovery.

The blokemobile - whereby I was able to stretch out the factory clutch to 195,000 miles before it barely began to slip - is ready. I have a really great mechanic way over in Jackson, Tennessee. Mrs. bloke will shuttle me over there in the mid-afternoon when I have to stop working on these tubas, I'll grab my car, she will head home, and I will head to Mississippi. The old F tuba will be playing a couple of Elgar pieces. I don't know if they will rehearse those first, maybe I can try to get back to blokeplace, and maybe do a little bit more on these 6/4 tuba sections ...or not...??

Yesterday, two customers showed up at approximately the same time from 1100 miles away and 1200 miles away. One of them showed up to pick up three instruments they had purchased, which was easy. Super nice people - both of them.

After chatting and discussing some things, I got to work on the other person's instruments. They basically brought me two complete sets of distressed bows for six/quarter B-flat tubas including the bottom bows, and the upper and lower bows both had thick caps and beads on them. Additionally, there were two upper bows for large four/quarter instruments. I knocked out the two upper four/quarter bows and I got one complete set of six/quarter bows done before I had to leave towards an adjacent city about an hour plus away to pick up my car (which just had its 195K miles  clutch replaced).

The person with all of the bows repair was really nice and dropped me off to get my car, since they were heading the same way towards home. I also did a little bit of work on a saxophone for that same person, and Mrs bloke worked on that saxophone as well. Once I retrieved my car, I drove roughly two hours straight south from there for 7:00 p.m. rehearsal at which I'm at now, and which ends at 10:00 p.m.

I'll be home by midnight, well need to get up at 7:00 a.m. or so and head back over here for a 10:00 a.m. rehearsal and a 7:00 p.m. concert. This place is about an hour and 40 minutes from my home. On Sunday, I plan to sleep all day, because I've been sick. Really soon, I'm going to work on that second set of six/quarter size bows which were left here for me to work on when I have a chance.

Right now I'm feeling a little woozy. Coffee isn't doing it.

You need to sleep during the rests and ask the bass bone player to wake you 4 beats before you have an entrance. You’d do it for him, I’m sure.
