I've had this tuba about 40 years! I bought it from Gary Buttery. Larry Minnick did the alterations: Miraphone linkage, flipping the 5th from thumb to finger and extending the length of the fifth as was the fashion in LA back in the 70's.

Me and my bandmates from the Klein Orkest Rolde.
I am holding my Miraphone 188 with the old 2+3 on the left hand (from the early 80's)

Cat approved (turn device 90 degrees clockwise or head 90 degrees counter clockwise, worry that she can get past the bottom bow):

York 15” bell Eb. I used the bell from a “tall bell” model (32” tall) and the bugle from a short bell model. King parts for leadpipe, valves (1-2-3-2), MTS, dogleg and smallest top bow. Rotor from Miraphone 183 Eb between pistons at MTS. Plays awesome. Light singing sound but plays seamlessly down to the pedals.

roughly 8 months ago...a rare picture of me actually wearing a black-tie "tuxedo".
Prior to this concert, I did not own one, and only owned tails and a black suit.
This orchestra's dress, though, is "tuxedo".
My brother (a D.C. bureaucrat) had retired, and no longer needed his for formal dinners and other events...so he donated it to me.

Image

This was also before Ryan Anthony suddenly (once again) became very sick (sadly, for the last time), and was still performing trumpet concerti with orchestras.

Note the insignia on his shirt...

The tuba...??
It's a tuba. :coffee:

I was just surprised to find this on YouTube...
Either I never knew it was there...or else I forgot it was there.

I'm on my phone, right now, but I believe I'm hearing hiss and noise, but I believe I'm hearing that it's addressed by the time the music starts.

This is a per-service orchestra in north Mississippi (about 1-1/2 hours from blokeplace). They throw concerts together in two 2-hour rehearsals.

The performances feature a few rough edges and minor balance problems, but are generally pretty good.

They're very nice people, there are some remarkably fine musicians peppered within the ensemble, and they pay well.

> Ryan Anthony and John Schuesselin - Vivaldi (two piccolo) trumpets concerto (I think?)
> Ryan Anthony - Concerto for Hope
> Dvořák - Symphony #8 ("solid" writing for tuba, but no "solos", at least not that I recall...)

The concertmaster is Demondrae Thurman's wife - Jenny Grégoire (very nice person, as anyone would expect...and doesn't boast about her husband...ex: "My husband plays euphonium...")

YouTube video skip-ahead info: chit-chat ends roughly around 6:45

PS. Bloke: do not look at the mpc parts combination
New style cup with old style rim? That's what I'm using currently (also?).

Ha, just found this. It's "My Tuba and I" from 1979. Yamaha YBB-321, junior recital in college. I know this horn is not in vogue, but man - I felt I could play the snot out of this one. Oh, and A.J. played it and said "There's nothing wrong with this tuba". Well, when HE played it, of course!

By the way, I almost bought it for myself just so it would have a good home. But I already have 6 tubas in a 2-bedroom house.
