I tried on both bathroom scales here and am consistently getting 21 lbs on the 186 BBb. Serial # 137xx actually points to 1980s for the horn, my mistake. It’s likely the 70s ones are lighter.

I have two weights: Not too heavy, and Too Heavy. The distribution of tubas between those two categories changes as you grow older and more feeble.

Well that’s a substantial difference and much more than I would have thought. But my experience is with 1960’s vintage 186 & 185. Is this by chance a 5 valve horn?

Just for clarification, do these weights include or not include the owners' anti-theft initials in brass on the main tuning slides?

I tend to eat carbs when I get sick, and the last time I got sick I picked up a bit of the way that I had previously gotten rid of.
I'm getting it back off now, and therefore me and my tuba should be weighing less.
When carrying a tuba around, I suspect that many players don't think about the fact that they're having to carry themselves around as well.
They might sacrifice a really superb 23 lb tuba for a mediocre 18 lb tuba, whereby they could have just as well lost 10, 20, or 30 lb off of themselves... 30 is probably the difference between a sack and a protective hard shell case. :smilie6:
