Not sure that most of the items the guy mentioned would apply to a 56-year-old tuba.

And if mine was stolen goods, then I think Aaron or his bosses would have some splainin' to do.

But electric guitars are made in much larger numbers, traded much less often through a small community of trustworthy dealers, and are routinely exact copies of vintage instruments.

Lots of folks who advertise watches obscure the serial number, and there it's done to prevent someone from claiming it as their own. But all my serial numbers for expensive things are already registered with the manufacturers, and since I have the watch and the provenance, the usurper would have quite the challenge to live up to the burden of proof.

And counter to all that, pictures online of my stuff with serial numbers visible is a documentation record of my own ownership, so that if it gets stolen from me I can present evidence that I actually had possession of it. My stuff is insured, so such presentation of evidence will be made to an insurance company in case my house burns down.
