It could be done. Our friend Jason Allen came up with this two-stepper:

Not to shill my stuff, but I wrote a book on Duck, very much like the Standing in the Shadows of Motown format, and I'll tell you this: transcribing 60 Duck basslines helped my pocket on both bass AND tuba.

And I also like playing Jamerson lines on tuba, too.

Thanks! It's not a huge seller, but it has actually consistently sold since it was published, and still one of the coolest experiences of my life. I got to talk to some greats, and record the tracks on Duck's '59!

fwiw...
This is STAX, before it was STAX:

Even though there's an academy and a museum there, now, I wouldn't set one foot outside that wrought-iron-fenced parking lot, in the back.

Aretha's birthplace is right at 1 mile directly to the west:

Oh man, GREAT pics.

Yeah, I did a book release party at the museum, and it's crazy to see where that studio was. Makes sense that they had a staff of armed guards on the premises, and at one point, one of the head guys (I think maybe Jim Stewart) sent one of the musicians out to buy a gun for each musician after King's assassination.

From what I understand, the empty lot across the street used to house a grocery store that the guys used to park at. Crazy that it's just an empty lot now (which I think I remember the original Stax building being torn down, and rebuilt...right?)

I had no clue Aretha's house was there. Wish I did.

I don't know what this is, but it's across the street from Stax, and has been there for several years.

Yes, it was torn down and built back...but I suspect that only the facade is anything like the old movie theater.

Oh, I thought the grocery store would have been this section:

I think they at least recreated the live room. It had a very theater style shape to it. The rest? Dunno. :smilie5:

I see.
I’ve had a few teaching appointments down there over the years… That’s a part of town where I try to hit all the lights green…but the entire city has actually gotten that way.
