Whimsical mailboxes are fun, but - as we are long past the 1960's/1970's (long-past living in a civilized society) - soon after they are erected, they are usually maliciously destroyed.
Yah I don't think it would last long.

Well I think it would last in my neighborhood but of course I might find out the hard way. I don't live in town or where there is traffic other than neighbors and delivery people.

I would say on your side, put what ya feel into it that you'll get what ya want out of it. But i don't know if there is a tuba lorax, and this is an elder statesman. Give it the respect it deserves. Which may not be reasonalbly measured in money. I'm not that smart.

I would think that the fix for that spot on the bell would be a patch that wraps around both sides of the rim. That shouldn’t cost much. A bit of cleanup on the previous solder repairs and another go at that 3rd valve crook should be equally as affordable.
Sorting out the leadpipe is labor intensive, running successively larger dent balls through.
Maybe do the repairs in the first paragraph and see if you’re happy with it. If not, sort of the leadpipe.

It would last just fine in my neighborhood.
Convincing my wife to let us put it out there is another thing. Not to mention, we have a mail slot in our front door... So a street side mail box would be pretty weird.

What are those shark/bear blaster cap things? You could put a few on your old Americana mailbox; if some jerk runs it over at least you'll have the satisfaction of utterly ruining their night. A range card wouldn't hurt...

I couldn't resist although you WOULD have to fix that bell rim or risk cutting your @$$ (or worse)
This would preserve the beautiful engraving!
And no, there's no hate just good old fashioned humor
