looks like a 'phone 191 knock-off. Was the TE model # actually 911, or 191 ?

this is a Tuba Exchange 911 I played for a while. it played very well and had a huge sound, but it was just too large, physically for my back and shoulders. i think it was called a 5/4.

I have a picture of the Martin as my profile pic. Here's a pic of the Cerveny. I don't think of it as a BAT, more like a Tall-*** Tuba, 46.5 inches. Plays very well, but there's still some work it needs, just need to find a repair person with the time.

Wow hal! That is a cool old tuba. What's the bell diameter?
Where do you live? Curious who might be within a days drive to drop it off and have it worked on.

Bell diameter is 17 inches and change. I'm in Colorado, and I've taken it to a shop south of Denver, they did good work. There's another shop I've been considering, but summers are really busy for most shops (school horns), plus I'm on a death-march project for work, so my time is limited for trips. I'm thinking of taking it to Lee Stofer, but that's a long day's drive each way.

Sorry, my dyslexia popping up... And I was up early... it is a 191-4 (4=4 valves, i think) :-)
it's a BIG horn... they called it a 5/4, but it always seemed larger.

I only know one de facto 7/4 tuba.
I VERY NEARLY just acquired one. If not for an honest miscommunication with the seller (and no hard feelings -- an honest error), it would be en route to me now.
I'm pretty bummed about it. But know it would have been for my own indulgence and not practicality. I'm not sad to keep the money instead, but would have LOVED the chance to mess around with it for as long as I pleased.
That's the breaks! Moving on...!

One of these days, if I ever get to your side of the country, I’m going to show up on your doorstep with some really nice gift to make up for the fact that I’m inviting myself over to visit and have a peek at all of your amazing work.
Being that I’m in California (and travel nearly never), I think you’re safe. Also being in CA, seeing those horns lined up, I see a row of dominoes falling over in the next big earthquake.
Nice picture
@Yorkboy !

The lighting, finish, background, curves/lines of those tubas... all just look VINTAGE and look RIGHT.

Yes, in the US we seem to have kind of a genetic memory of that big York clone, making it kind of an ideal even if not often encountered in the flesh. The A should stand for "American".
