I ordered a bag from Altieri once, and they were able to give me a really nice floral pattern on one of the panels. The rest of the bag is black. It looks a bit like aunt Millie's drapes, but I have a cool and distinctive gig bag that no one will ever confuse for anyone's but mine. I think some patterns like camo, zebra, paisley, etc. would be nice on a small accent panel. You wouldn't have to stock yards of it, just maybe interesting remnants big enough to use on a single pocket or panel, or something. Gig bags are pretty boring. Even a leather bag might have a single heavy duty patterned fabric somewhere.
If you're a custom manufacturer, personalization is really the next step. I know tuba players are a little conservative, but I'll bet there are folks who draw outside the lines here and there.
If you ever started making a lower level line of bags/cases aimed at pre-professionals, having some audacious options would give you an edge with the younger crowd.

In college, I somehow conned Ms Altieri (Not sure if that was her name but you know who I mean), into making me a red gig bag (she used the material she used for the red piping on her standard bag). She had only done that for one other person (who I knew) and didnt really want to.
Anyway years later, it wore on me and I wished I had just gotten a black bag.

A classic Cronkhite combination bag that I had for several years and really liked. Tan sides and dark brown where the zipper travelled on a side loader bag with a dark brown pocket.

Two classic Cronkhite combination bags that I had for several years and really liked. Tan sides and dark brown where the zipper travelled on a side loader bag with a dark brown pocket.
Also, green sides and then black where the zipper travelled on another side loader bag with a black pocket.

Yes, I liked that combination as well!

I had this bag made custom out of leather for a very small Eb I had. I always thought it was a classic color combo, and looked great in leather

FYI, these are the options for Gotz bags.
Have to admit, the Royal Blue and the Yellow (9, and 8)... I'm into that. Yellow with black handles / straps / zippers works in a "so ugly its cool" way, but I grew up in Maryland and we LOVE our "colorful" flag....

Sable and Old Gold do look nice together!

When I had my 187, I got a Cronkite bag with blue sides and black trim around the zippers. Now that I have my 496, when my Miraphone gig bag finally needs to be replaced, I will get another Cronkite bag, or whatever that bag has become and will see if I can get it with more than 2 colors. If I can, I'm gonna go wild!!

Were I going to manufacture and sell cordura gig bags, this would be my run down:
Black
Dark Navy Blue
Royal Blue
Purple
Forest Green (ish)
Grey
Burgundy
Red
Yellow
I would reserve the brown colors for leather.
And black lining. Nothing but black lining, ever.

Medium or dark green. It makes a bag stand out in a sea of black bags without being flashy; that definitely helps at a big TubaChristmas.

Black.
Seriously, though, I own four ukulele bags with this or very similar patterns that I
really like. How the exterior material would fare on a tuba bag is anyone's guess, but if it was only on the main, outer panel I think a responsible person would see it last for many years. If I could get a full-Cordura bag body with reinforcing leather contact patches AND with this banket material installed
on top of the Cordura on the main face of the bag I would get one as soon as I could afford it. I might get as many as four of them, depending on the price.
I am not "in" to bright colors at all, but am into dense patterns with dark or muted colors.
Teal? Puce? Chartreuse? No thank you.
This blanket-looking stuff? Heck yeah. Take my money.
This is just a random image from a quick Google image search. It is similar to what I like. The material looks like it might be fuzzy, and therefore, easy to mess up if you use it a lot or if it gets wet. But that sort of pattern is still very cool and I would likely purchase something like this, skinned over a Cordura shell.
This is an actual bag I own. It is a sales image from Amazon, but my bag is itendtical in the material, which is some tightly woven industrial grade fiber that is not all warm and soft like a blanket, but it looks great (well, to ME, that is) and has survived a number of rainy days and lots of direct sunlight over the years I have owned it. A tough, long-lived Cordura bag with the outer panel skinned with this material in this pattern would cause me to empty my pockets in a huge vomit of filthy lucre. No joke. I have been waiting for such a bag for years.
Pretty weird, I know. But you asked, and are a good enough businessman to at least listen to the more… let's say "esoteric"… customer feedback.
Thanks for listening, and not laughing directly in my face.
PS - Yes, I know this sort of woven stuff would tend to snag, if the owner is careless. I am not careless with my gear, and know that many here are also not careless. Having the sides and the strap-bearing face made from genuine Cordura would cover just about all "wounds" as the outer panel does not come into contact with all that much - again - if the owner is careful.

Update...
I have expanded my Cordura color choices! The line-up is:
Black
Smoke (a dark gray)
Burgundy
Vintage Navy (a faded-looking navy)
Navy Blue (the real deal)
Forest Green
Dark Brown
Tan
Red
Purple
I also have some new lining colors:
Blue
Coral (a bit lighter than burgundy)
Marigold
Here is a tuba and euphonium bag we made this week. Tuba is in Forest Green and euphonium is Tan & Dark Brown. The leather is Chocolate on both of them. I am realizing that the more colors I have, the more cool two-color combinations are possible!
