I found a Yamaha dual trigger for $1200. I know it is out of your range but they might negotiate.

If you pull the trigger on a YBL-611, budget a couple hundred more to get the Eb slide converted into a far more useful D slide. For whatever reason, low C makes way more sense in fourth position than it does in fifth and you’ll have access to Bb at the stockings.

I think a Holton TR180 would be right up your alley (earlier models had 9.5" bells, and later models 10" if memory serves me correctly). Underrated bass bones for sure, and I've seen them go in the $1000-1500 range often. Perhaps slightly on the high side for your budget. Leadpipe replacement really makes 'em PLAY!

The Holton TR-180 with 9.5" bell was SO unpopular that Holton had Lewis Van Haney (my teacher) re-design the horn with a new lead pipe and the 10" bell. I own 2 of them, one of them he picked out for me in 1972 before the update went on the market. My 2nd one is 19 serial numbers newer. Both play great!
