On my first DS, the issue was with the post/screw on the first valve (to keep you from accidentally pulling the slide all the way out) rattling. I wound up removing the post eventually.
On my current one, the rattling seems to not be there, but I keep the screw off the horn and stored away because I never understood that design decision.

Not 100% sure we're talking about the same thing. But I bought a coffee and walked out with a stirring straw. I've not had an issue with buzzing from that area since.

That's what I meant. Ceratinly one way to fix the rattle.

I coat stop rods on tubas like that for the same reason, because the low frequency range of the tuba can cause those things to vibrate, and because tubas' stop rods are so much longer than they are on trumpets...and no, I'm not going to do some leather and string thing, even though a major manufacturer does it.
