I don't know about sheet music but I'm sure you can find a version somewhere. He sounds really great on that performance. Great sound and very nice bass line.

Authentic. I love the singing and playing, and the enthusiastic singing of the kids. You would never get that on a kids show today - everything is overdubbed, pitch corrected, and sounds artificial. This is genuine.

It's been two and a half months since the first announcement.
I sincerely hope that there wasn't much suffering - and that things were in place to offer Mr. Johnson relief from any pain, during that time.

RIP Mr. Johnson and thank you for your music over the years. The trumpets in heaven now sound better with you playing your Mahillion.

I first crossed paths with Howard in 1969 through Walter Sear ( I played tuba then). Even though I was a green kid fresh out of high school, he treated me with great amounts of encouragement, invited me to a few rehearsals, and allowed me to attend a Gil Evans recording session. When I went off to college, I pretty much lost contact with him except for an occasional encounter at a TUBA event. The last time I saw him (IIRC, memory fails me sometimes) was at the University of Cincinnati, when Harvey Phillips was inducted into the Classical Music Hall of Fame and/or there was some kind of TUBA/ITEC thing. He remembered me and we spent a few minutes getting caught up until he was called away.

His treatment of me in '69 left a real impression on me, and I made sure I maintained that attitude of encouraging eager learners in both of my lives as a euphonium player/teacher and a Professor of Finance.

I am so glad I had the opportunity to see him perform. Funniest line from the concert : I've been carrying around all these heavy instrumuments for years and you guys want to hear me play this penny whistle.
