Help! Beginner Soldering Supplies Needed.

It's pretty soft, and you may have absorbed it through your skin by handling it. Just typing that made me think about how much I handle it which isn't very much. Usually, I'm holding it by the spool or I might be using my fingernail to flick it off an instrument, which is probably not a particularly wonderful thing to do. For lots of reasons including cooties, I keep my fingernails cut to the quick and I go over and wash my hands at the big sink every hour or so, because all sorts of stuff is on my hands all the time. I hope they are fairly well calloused, and I suspect that they are.
