forehead - (traditional pronunciation: "far-ed") ...My daughter (who would rate as "highly-educated") mocks me when (albeit it's not a word that needs to be uttered particularly "off-ton") mocks me when I pronounce "forehead" as "far-ed", so (in exchange) I ask her if linguists at the University of Rochester taught her to say "four-haid".
I always found the dialects of Philly and Baltimore curious but not offensive.

I put up with just about anything if the food is good!! (As well as properly served and prepared)

I do know it's pronounced "wit." I'm a provolone guy. American is just ok. Never done the whiz (maybe it's great???). Btw, I know what I like - I ain't being sent to the back of the line. Heard stories, ain't happening to me.

But right around here, there isn't much choice. We definitely don't have a "Geno's vs Pat's" situation. It's a "lucky if you can find one, and pray it's not $#!++y" kind of situation. In the next town over, there is a really good Cajun restaurant ran by a guy from "ova dere." He has a Cajun take on a cheesesteak on po boy bread (the bread alone is heaven-sent and NO approved). Philly folks wouldn't give it the time of day if you called it a "cheesesteak" or "hoagie," but if you told them it was a badass Cajun "sandwich" or "po boy," even Philly traditionalists would give it a thumbs up. It is a HEAVY, FULL sandwich, and it tastes great. But I digress...

Supposedly, Sousa spoke with a pronounced, yet subtle Baltimore dialect.

(I think the speed is off a little, but you still get the idea.)

He probably had his dialect free radio voice on, else he may have said "foin est" instead of "finest"

Brings to mind one of my pet peeves - band leaders who give directions to gigs that rely on landmarks that no longer exist, other than in their memory...thank goodness for GPS...... :smilie7:
