Just fewer fills, R/5 movements with few walkups. So in general, simpler. Funny thing is, they're very good players in their own right, so it might be the bandleader's decision to play simpler.
I have some jobs like that. Clean, clear, and simple are the order of the day. And some gigs are strictly "play the ink." Some gigs are more about show and entertainment, so you can grip it and rip it. And some tunes really beg for solid/not showy. I put up a video of Im Zillertal ist Jodlerball in which the bass part is fairly simple and straight ahead, and any heavy movement would be out of place musically.
Yep. Been there. As a bass major with a euph performance certificate, the best advice I was given by one of the local great bassists was to learn to play tuba and double my gigs.
Going from 5 per year to 10 per year is a big deal. But when you can play bass, tuba, euph (and sing harmony), you can definitely get work.
The thing is, the way we were talking about it is that it's likely not for volume, since the tuba is audible enough acoustically, but more to bring back some of the low end, plus throw some reverb on it for some sound enhancement. I think it's also a visual thing for Disney, too; the clip-on mic would be visually distracting.
I've tried this trick at home, and if anything over 100hz is playing, it's completely overdriven, even with gain all the way down. It's not the best sound design technique, but it's functional, especially if you're going for visuals.

I can play the 12J without any kind of harness.
I'm old, fat, and tired. I'll take the harness. But at least the 12J isn't a beast.

Isn't it funny how this can be just as satisfying as flashy, if done right?

Being here and witnessing the shows, it makes sense, since people hear with their eyes. Then again, they are known to close even popular shows to put in something new, too...

I hear ya. I try not to strain with anything not strain-worthy. A good harness and morning coffee are great assurances in that regard.
Some years ago, I played bass for a few years for a 9-piece dance band that played local dance clubs and other gigs. Of course, these dance clubs asked us to play everything: two step, swing, waltz, the various latin genres, etc., so we had a rather structured set list that included, of course, polkas. I noticed over the course of a few gigs that essentially nobody danced when we played a polka. So I told the band leader at the next gig that the next time we played a polka, introduce it as being "by request" - no explanation, no further ado, just say, "And now, by request, ____________ Polka!" (even though it was just in the regular set list). He did. The dance floor was full for each polka at each gig after he started doing that!

I have been wanting to go Woodstock. It looks like a fun experience, and one that you can't get anywhere else.
I was there twice, but for me it's "only" 700Km. Last year was unfortunately canceled due to corona, but the experience in 2018 and 2019 was amazing. Hope it won't be canceled this year...

Not exactly a polka, and not exactly a tuba part, but:
I transcribed a trumpet solo improvising the melody of So Ein Tag. I made myself a backing track of the tune for practice and possible (but now definite) video performance of bass and singing. I was loathe to make the trumpet part a MIDI (or even an EVI) performance, so this was a way I could shoehorn an extra tuba performance in.
I'll be recording Schone Urlaubszeit soon, but I made the trumpet and clarinet parts with EVI, since it's a video for playing tuba.

I subbed with a polka group yesterday and one of my kids took this video. I honestly don't remember the name of this one, we played a lot of polkas that night... I was using my "medium" King Eb frankentuba.

I stumbled across these on the Facebook page of guy who used to be the bandleader on my weekly boat (jazz) band gig.
This isn’t a real polka band, but just the same jazz musicians who played on the boat every Saturday. We were just reading some stuff out of books at a casino gig, where there was probably some highrollers party - which probably (??) included a drawing for a trip to Europe or something. My guess is that there were a whole bunch of other books - with a whole bunch more parts - that weren’t being played:
Obviously, I took the Rudy 5/4 to this gig. I don’t know why… Probably just because I felt like playing it, because I had it…(??)
I have no idea what I was playing here…possibly, the sparkly sousaphone, certainly, if we were standing up…(??)
But when you can play bass, tuba, euph (and sing harmony), you can definitely get work. 
But at least the 12J isn't a beast.
