Interesting how much Bargeron's tuba solos with BST sounded like that euphonium solo. My band director at Memphis State was Tom Ferguson - who was the first pianist with the Rich Matteson tuba consort. Tom brought in all sorts of top jazz stars to play with the "A" jazz band - which was every bit as good as 1:00 down in Denton. I think he might have brought Cat Anderson in once or twice. That would have been only five or six years before his death, but he still sounded great.
