Always been a bit intrigued by these. Way-way northeast Connecticut is basically a suburb of Worcester and I used to live there, about a half hour away from the city. I would go to the Worcester Union Station* to ship tubas via Greyhound back when that option was available to us. Always an interesting experience. Next time I'm in the neighborhood I need to go find the site of the old Conn/Fiske factory there.

This might sound weird, but I’ve often been interested in visiting places where stuff happened. Some years back you could see lots of the Elkhart factory spaces from back in the day. When those began to disappear, there then used to be some marker plaques where stuff was that you could see. Sounds like much of even that is now gone. I’d like see where the Fisk factory stood, too, even more so than for the Conn use of it. Call it vibe or energy, I enjoy it. Then again, I like walking around really old cemeteries, too.

Quinn also has a Boston (cornet?) in his garage sale this time round as well, which may not really be worth mentioning here, except by way of my Boston Tuba Christmas conceit in years past has been to play a Boston tuba.

Should I aim to play a Conn at the Conn. Tuba Christmases this year?

@humBell's associate (upstate NY) bought an unfinished project from me...

a really early Elkhart (or really late Worchester?) E-flat body (17" bell) and a Willson front-action E-flat valveset.

An open bugle "tuning test" on that earlier/large-yet-skinny body revealed that it was going to play considerably nicer in tune than those later Conn "Monster" E-flats (with wider bell diameters).
