Circa 1952 Conn 34j 4 valve 6/4 sized tuba originally owned by the US Navy. I bought it from the LA unified school district. The lacquer is pretty splotchy, not much of it left. Minor dents, especially considering its age and spending time in the school system.
Missing one bell screw and flange, one finger button doesn’t match, one water key isn’t original.
The 34j was the precursor to the 20j/24j, which had short action valves. This one has the ‘normal’ valves.
All slides pull, all valves move nicely. This is a good playing horn. I’m quite amazed at how delicately you can play with such a big horn, yet it can belt out the sound. Low G honks like a brontosaurus in heat (whatever that sounded like )
$750, not overly interested in shipping but… located in Running Springs, (southern) California near Big Bear but can bring it down off the mountain.
Please free to ask any questions you may have. I can certainly send higher resolution pictures to anyone interested.
