Hard to imagine what the advantage of this design is, besides being 'different'. In fact, it seems to have more angles than regular rotary sets, as there's no 'straight shot' through the valve set, like when valves aren't engaged.

I looked at the pictures of this tuba carefully twenty years ago, also. I like the way the 2nd valve slide is angled up to naturally drain water, but I do not care for the lead pipe which will drain back into the player's mouth unless you hold the tuba quite obliquely. Other valve slides look like water collectors waiting to happen, with no drain keys. This tuba appears to be a journeyman's project for the builder to get his diploma/license/qualifications in Germany as a master builder. Strangely, I have never seen any comment, review, or otherwise from any person to say how this instrument actually plays.
