Hi all - not knowing how often any of you check out the Media channel here, pop on over there to see the latest video version of one of my
ITEA Journal articles - this time featuring Sousa's longest-tenured tubist, John W. "Jack" Richardson. Enjoy!

I've played a giant King, but I've never played one of the jumbo Conns. I didn't find the King to be very gratifying, but to each his own. I seemed to be able to sort of play It In tune.
I've always wondered about the innate intonation with the Conn jumbos, because the size down (6/4) Conn intonation never seems to be anything to write home about.
Basically, (and not that I'd want to own one) I've always been curious as to how hard those fellas in the Sousa band had to work to keep their intonation between the ditches.

I highly recommend this well researched presentation. It's full of details and gives real insight into this important musician. Bravo to Mr. Detwiler!
