🤣

Believe it or not, I played trombone on that session.

Truth be told (as heard here on this track on another album), I'm a pretty sh!tty trombone player, but I had to make up something to play and play trombone on this tune in this (other) session as well, because it was 4:30 in the afternoon and the guy playing trombone on this album (believe it or not, that guy's mostly a woodwind player but plays a hell of a good trombone) had to leave and go play at 5:00 gig. (Of course I also played tuba on this. This was the only "dixieland" thing on the entire album, an album which was supposed to demonstrate our versatility.)

something else:
This was the first and last time this band ever played this particular song, as well as most of the others on this album.
... That said, there really were three different woodwind players who played those harmonized versions of that famous clarinet obligato on the trio. (I wrote out those harmony parts the night before while watching TV... When I saw that we were going to do this tune as our "dixieland" tune, I just thought it would be a hoot to harmonize it. The tempo at which we played this traditional dixieland number - basically, in the form of a traditional march - was limited to the speed at which those guys could sight-read those woodwind parts in the trio.)

That's a really fun listen, Joe and a great story. I can only guess if the woodwind players were delighted by the trio, or if they were... uh... well, whatever the opposite of delighted is.

Yeah. I wouldn't describe their reaction to those parts as "delight".

That whole CD is on YouTube. If you listen to samples of each cut, you will quickly discover that it was NOT a dixieland band.

Yesterday, someone bought a Sellmansburger mouthpiece from me. It was a local sale. Its for his new Cimbasso. He's the 3rd (or 4th?) owner of the mouthpiece. It is one of those silver plated brass with stainless rim ones

I don't know how he knew what I would look like 15 or 20 years later, but it's incredibly accurate.
