Not tuba related, and maybe posted on the wrong page. Not even sure if this is appropriate to do here or not. In any case....... my apologies in advance and moderators can do what they need to do with it. I won't be insulted. BUT.....

My daughter just graduated from Yale on Monday with her 2nd Masters Degree from the School of Music...... first one: Master of Music, second one: Master of Musical Arts. Undergrad was from Eastman School of Music with a degree in Horn Performance, and was also awarded the coveted Performer's Certificate by the brass department professors.

She's actively looking for orchestral employment/audition opportunities. Already has a few auditions lined up and monitoring audition sites for additional openings. She absolutely loves doing chamber music, too.

Any tips, heads-ups, or first hand knowledge regarding "full time" orchestral/chamber group openings would be greatly appreciated.

She is located in western PA, but is willing to go just about anywhere in the US for full time employment opportunities with reasonable pay. Open to Per Service/subbing opportunities in eastern states area too. (Western/Northern NY, PA, WVA, OH..... within reasonable driving distance, and again, for reasonable pay.)

She's a tiny girl, but plays a ton. We're hoping for the best for her. I just wanted to put the word out to this community, in hopes of a couple of reputable leads from folks already in this arena. Now that she's finished with school, she can focus completely on preparing for any and all auditions that she can find.

Military bands are always looking for excellent players. Pay is not equal to top-of-the-line orchestras, but few get near rhem to audition, let alone win a position. However, expenses must be factored into the salary, too---very low cost of living, lot's of opportunity to perform.

A few years ago the concert band I was with did a concert with a brass quintet from the Navy. It had the best horn player I have EVER heard, a young woman. I mean, she blew my socks off. And she was not off stuck in a rehearsal hall and having to do symphony concerts either. I think military bands, if it fits your personality profile (and physical condition) are a fantastic deal.

@Paulver, I think I met one of your daughter's classmates. A MM horn player from Yale called me up on Easter with an emergency repair (Bb thumb trigger was stuck/rotor seized). She tried the locals in New Haven but everybody was closed and she needed the horn on Monday morning. She drove the hour over to me and I was able to free the rotor (completely seized with green gunk). I cleared off what I could, oiled it liberally and told her to get it cleaned ASAP! Make sure your daughter gets her horn cleaned, too!

To answer what I your specific question is, classical music performing jobs are advertised in the musicians union monthly magazine called the International Musician (you have to be a union member to access or receive it), and there used to be a website called musicalchairs (I don't know if it still exists) that did the same thing and supplied links to applying with resume.
